Crime Doesn't Pay

This is another one of those ones that I had a fragment of an idea, but not the whole thing.  It took me longer than I thought it would, but I finally worked out the rest.  I've been in a very Korina Bliss sort of mood recently, too.

Stakes of the Game

So since I've been gone for so long, I'm trying to spend a bit of time making some captions for you all.  I've got several images that have inspired bits of a story, but now I'm trying to fill out the details.  As usual, I'm starting with simpler stories before trying to jump into anything really complex, but hopefully you'll still enjoy them.

This is one of those simpler stories, meant more as a bit of fluff and fun.  Once I saw this set, I knew where I wanted the story to go, I just wasn't sure how to get there.  Hopefully it came out ok.

Weekly Comic 5/3/13

I know it's been a while since I've done anything new around here.  I've been dealing with a lot lately, plus I've been focusing on getting my RPG up and running (things are getting started, we already have a few characters and missions will be starting soon, so if you are interested check the link on the right!).  So I've got another multi-panel comic today.  This one comes from a manga, so I can't provide you with a website.  The only name I've seen it under is I Cup, and I've never even found a translated version (If you know where to find one, let me know).  I hope you enjoy.

The Winner

A while back I ran a little contest, with a caption as the prize.  The winner was one Brandon Noble.  Congratulations to you!

I wasn't able to work in your liking of mermaids, sorry.  I just couldn't find any source material that inspired me.  Still, I hope you enjoy your prize.

Winners and Losers

I know I've used this image before, but this idea struck me while I was at work today.  Since it has been a while since I've had any inspiration for a caption, I thought I'd go ahead and work it up.  So, for any of you who actually still read this blog, here is my latest work for you to enjoy.

Strong Potion

New caption for today.  This one was actually supposed to just be something quick, just a short little thing.  It actually ended up taking more time than I had planned, though, just getting the text to flow right and have the right feel to it.  I kept having to add or adjust or switch to get it right.  Hopefully you'll still enjoy it.

The Danger's of Drinking Too Much

Hey, look at that, a caption!

Now, I know this is a bit rough, but I did say I would try to do at least some new work while on my laptop.  This one has been kicking around in my head for a while, and I finally managed to find that last elusive piece I needed to make it work.

Some of you may have noticed that there is a read more link below the caption.  That's because I don't want to spoil the story on this one, but after you read it you may be interested in learning the "history" of this caption.  There is a bit of a story behind this one.  So if you liked it and want to know more, click the link.

Also, it's the return of my (in)famous Witch Doctor!

Cosplay Burlesque

So, this whole week I've actually been having the desire to caption.  I was actually feeling quite motivated.  I had some lovely pictures that I really wanted to work with.  So I sat down and started.

It wasn't so much a writer's block, as it was a writer's great wall of china.  A writer's hoover dam.  I literally could not write.  I managed to get out exactly two words before being unable to continue.  I had nothing.

Today, I finally managed to get an idea going.  In the end, it actually started running so long that it would never fit into a single caption.  Rather than trying to cut it down, I decided to do the opposite.  I would expand it and turn it in to a story.  But, rather than make you all wait until the story is complete I thought I would do this.

Below is posted the text as I originally wrote it, formatted as to be a caption.  The image is included as well, though I did not add the text to the image itself, as is normal.  Instead, think of this as a sort of teaser, a preview if you will, of the story to come.  I intend to expand a bit on the back story of the characters at least a little, and certainly continue with what happens after the caption.  I'll also try to flesh out some of the parts within the caption a bit more, add more details where needed.  Since it won't be constrained by image size, I can be much more verbose.

In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy this quasi-caption.  Feedback is always appreciated, and I'd certainly welcome suggestions as well.  Got an idea for what you think might happen next?  Let me hear it.  I can't promise I'll use it, but who knows, maybe I will, or maybe it will inspire me in completely different ways.

Interview at the Convention

Hey, look at that, a caption.  Been a while since I've done an ordinary caption, I know.  Things have been...difficult... lately, and that makes it hard to find the energy to draw out the story from an image.  I have quite a few with the starts of ideas, but it's hard to work up the energy to finish them.  Still, I woke up this morning and decided to give it a shot.  This is what I came up with so far.  There may, or may not, be more coming soon, depending on how I feel and what happens.

The Correct Potion

So I've been trying to plan out my next big cosplay, which of course means that I have been in a very anime mood.  I also found that I am specifically in a Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail mood.  I've got quite a few images that have inspired thoughts.  I decided to start with this one since it was the most complete.

It's actually set in a world I had created as part of an old RPG system I'd been working on.  I had actually originally started working on it as a game to play on Rachel's Haven, but after certain events I've been much less active there and the project fell in to disuse.

The basic premise was that it was set in a world of magic, where those who were capable of using magic attended a school, like a college, in order to learn how to harness their abilities.  I know, it sounds very Harry Potter-ish, but I assure you that it is only a passing resemblance.  In my system, there were seven basic types of magic.  Students would choose a major, which would determine the type of magic they could wield.  They also had the option of choosing a minor, which would open up new options for their magic, or they could take a double major, meaning they could use two types of magic (but at the cost of having to split their advances between both studies, so they were less proficient in either one than those who only had a single major).  All of the magic types had some possibility for transformational effects, though some were more obvious (or direct) than others.  I'd have to go back and see if I could find, or remember, the full list and all the details, but that was the basic idea behind the system.  The trouble with such a system, though, was that it was hard to put numbers to it and still let players be creative with the effects of their spells.  It would need to be an Amber system, which is to say that there are no dice rolls or stats, simply the basic outline and the GM makes the decisions on what is or is not possible.  It's more flexible, but it also leaves out the possibility for random chance and luck that you get with the dice based systems.  Since random chance has saved my characters' lives many many times (I'm quite famous in my gaming groups, as my ability to get us INTO crazy situations was exceeded only by my ability to get us OUT of the same situations, usually through some bizarre and insane plan that never should have worked yet somehow did), I find the idea of giving such total control to the GM, even when I am the GM, is rather a turn off.  I never did find a way to reconcile it.

Anyway, enough rambling.  I'm sure none of you really care about any of that.  So here is what you have been waiting for, a new caption by me.  If you skipped the block of text above, don't worry about it.  This one can be read just fine without knowing the background behind it.

I hope you all enjoy it, and remember to please leave your feedback.

New Story Snippet

So this is a story idea that has been kicking around in my head for some time.  I thought about trying to develop it more, but never really knew where to go with it.  I decided to write up what I did have and make it in to one of my snippets.  As always, people are welcome to expand upon or take in new directions what I have here, just so long as you give proper credit and make sure you tell me where it is so I can enjoy it for myself as well.

This one also contains images to go along with the story.  You can click on them to enlarge them.

*edit* ok, so this one kind of ended up a lot longer than I had originally planned when I started writing.  It still doesn't have a beginning or a true ending, so it can't be called a complete story.  But it is quite long for one scene.  I actually left out some parts I was thinking about putting in, both to cut down and because it didn't flow as well.  Hopefully you will all enjoy, and please take the time to leave me some feedback.  Comments always help me to improve, and letting Any artist know their work is appreciated can help to keep them from getting discouraged.

Convention Volunteer

So, this is another one of those that has been kicking around in my head for a while, but I could never quite get right.  Well, today I was inspired.  Actually, I was inspired by what will be Friday's weekly comic (you'll have to wait till then to see it!).  But, while inspired, I also hopped in the shower for a bit.  A good warm shower is where I do my best thinking (go ahead, picture it, you know you want to).  While there, I was able to put together most of what was missing from this caption.  I sat down, wrote out the rest and filled it in as I wrote.  And this is what I came up with.  Of course, now I'm going to be late for work, so I hope you all appreciate it.

Bound Together, for the time being

Ok, so this is another one that I've been kicking around for a while, trying to get it to come together.  I've needed the distraction, so I sat down and forced myself to focus on it.  Hopefully it turned out ok.

Self Reflections

So, in the interest of suiting actions to words, I finally put together something I've been working on for quite some time now.  I had the idea way back, and I even edited the images and started writing the text.  But I couldn't get the whole thing out, and it just sort of ended up on the shelf.  So I dusted it off and finally finished it.  Hopefully you'll enjoy it.

This is a story with images, so it is a bit longer.  You may also want to let it load all the way, especially if you are on a slower connection before reading.  Read it after the jump.

Cap Libs 1

Ok, so I decided to try another little experiment.  This time, we are going to play a little game.

Battle in the Maze

Due to some personal issues, I've been finding it very hard to caption lately.  I've wanted to get back into things, try to focus on some of my creative pursuits a bit more, but it hasn't been easy.

I've had this image and the basic idea for quite some time now.  I figured it would be easier if I started by going back to some of my old, unfinished ideas rather than trying to go completely from scratch.

Ok, for some reason Blogger keeps messing up my longer captions.  Before it would shrink them.  Now it is turning them sideways.  For now, I've also included the text with a seperate image, like a short story.  Click the read more link below to see it.  Hopefully, I'll soon be able to figure out why Blogger keeps doing this.

Weekly Comic 5/25/12

I decided to continue my weekly comic idea, at least until I see that people are not enjoying it.  Want to see more of this, or want to see it gone?  Be sure to leave me feedback.

This week's comic comes from Wapsi Square (http://wapsisquare.com/).  It's a bit rough, because I had to work on my laptop as opposed to my usual desktop.

I hope you enjoyed it, be sure to leave your thoughts.

Weekly Captioned Comic

Ok, so, as always, my mind was wandering today when I came up with a new idea.  I realize that I often go for long stretches of time with no updates on this blog.  A big part of that is due to the time and effort that goes into making new captions, as well as my fluctuating inspiration.  But it occurred to me that, if I were to keep things simple, I could do something more regularly.

Thus the creation of the Weekly Captioned Comic.  One of my hobbies is reading webcomics.  I have a huge list that I go through every day.  I've often seen pages or panels and thought, with a bit of a rewrite to the dialogue, this would be a great TG comic.  So I decided that I would give it a try.  The idea being that, once a week, I will take a panel or page from a comic and give it the Angel touch.  They may be funny, they may be serious, they may be sexual.  But the point is that there will be one every week.  That way all of my readers are guaranteed something new on a regular basis.  I even already have a collection of images and ideas to draw from.

This week's comic comes from the strip Loserz (http://loserzcomic.comicgenesis.com/d/20010814.html)

This was my first attempt at something like this, so it is a bit rough.  The editing was done using Paint.net, and I'm still experimenting with how to get things just right.  If anyone has any suggestions, or can recommend a better/easier program, please let me know.

Is this something that you would like to see more of?  Do you like my idea, not like my idea?  Please, leave me some feedback on this little experiment, so I know if it is something I should continue or just let die.  Constructive criticism is welcome, and, as I said, any technical advice would be useful for improving future comics. But please, even if it is just a "yes continue" or "no don't", leave a comment or send me a message.  It is your feedback that helps me to improve, and let's me make more of the things that you want to see.
