Moving Day

So today is the day I move.  Well, sort of.  I'll be moving just about all of my possessions, but I won't actually be moving until almost next weekend (I'm staying in my current place to help my folks out as needed).  My desktop, which contains all of my captioning supplies (I don't use my laptop for this in case someone finds it) will be getting packed up and moved later today.  As such, I won't be able to really make captions for quite some time.  In addition, the place I'm moving in to has no network setup.  There is internet (DSL, I've heard mixed reviews about this does anyone have any experiences with it?  I'm on FIOS right now), but I'll have to set up a network and run cable before I can get my desktop online again.  Or even my laptop, once I make the move, for that matter.  I don't know how long this will all take.  I may be able to have it set up tomorrow, and can immediately come back once I make the final move.  Or it might take me several more days, since I need to prioritize more immediate needs, such as making sure I have room to actually sleep.  Its not a big room, I can't even fit all of my current furniture in it, so its gonna take a lot of organizing.

Knock on the Door

So I'm trying not to think about moving, so I decide to see if I can write some captions.  I actually owe a caption to someone, so I figured I'd work on that one.  I was looking for inspiration, and this one just suddenly jumped up and demanded that I write it.  It didn't really suit the person I owed preferences, so I kept it for myself.

Nobody Understands

I'm so freaking tired of this.

Why do people keep expecting me to be happy and excited about moving?  I'm being kicked out of the only home I've ever had, losing my one little place of the universe that was almost mine.  I've got nowhere to go, so I have to stay at a friend's.  So now I'm paying a lot of money for a single, significantly smaller, room that I can't do anything to make more comfortable.  The walls are painted a terrible color, but I can't change them.  I can't make a single hole in the walls, so I can't hang anything up.  I don't even have room for most of my belongings, including things like my costume making supplies, something which anyone who knows me knows is a major passion of mine, and I'm still reliant on my parents so I'm not even getting out from under their rule.  Plus I get to add a whole bunch of someone else's rules on top of that, and I'm supposed to be happy?

Oh, and lets not forget that this is a TEMPORARY arrangement, and that I have, AT MOST, one year before I have to be out.  So I have to find, and purchase, something I can afford before then.  And yet everyone keeps telling me that I should wait and get my license before I try to find a house.  Wonderful idea.  Too bad its FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE.  The license exam is in April.  That's about 9 months from now.  It takes several months to find out if you passed or not.  Even assuming I pass (because if I fail I don't get another chance until the next April), I likely won't know until at least June or July that I have a license.  So that leaves me, at best, 1 month to find a new job that pays better, save up enough money for a down payment, find, go through the closing process, and purchase a house of my own (a process that takes usually well over a month by itself, simply by virtue of the necessary inspections, contracts, etc) and move in.  And that is all assuming that I pass and recieve notification by June.  Any delay and I'm living in my car.  Yet when I tell people this, I'M the idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about because everyone else knows so much more than me.

Shadowrun Story Snippet

So my friends and I have been gearing up to get into Shadowrun.  Shadowrun is a dice based RPG set in a dystopian future.  It combines scifi elements such as cybernetic body parts, etc with magic and magical races.  You play the part of a shadowrunner, who is basically a criminal for hire.  Mr. Johnson (the name of ALL clients, for privacy, in shadowrun) hires shadowrunners to accomplish tasks of questionable legality.  It could be stealing corporate secrets, or retrieving items, or anything else they want to pay for.  It actually looks to be quite a bit of fun.  I've been reading the rules and going through the character creation process.  Well, it turns out that in fourth addition, in the extended rulebook Augmentation, there are rules for sex changes.  I'm not talking about rules that could be used to create a sex change.  There are actual rules specifically for it.

So yeah, genderswapping is an official part of Shadowrun.  Needles to say, this sent my mind off on some interesting thoughts for character backstories.  And, consequently, inspired this short story snippet.  Really its more of an introduction to the story, it just gets things started.  I think it could be quite fun to write some of the things that come next.  But let me know what you think?  Would you like to see more?  Any suggestions or advice?  Leave me a comment.

Moving

I will be moving this coming weekend.  As such I will not be around much until the move is complete and I am able to get my new 'place' set up.

Please be patient during this time.

Thank you.
