Alright, so its time for me to finally do up the convention report. I'm sorry it took so long, I've been dealing with some personal issues lately. I was also hoping to get copies of the quote list and photos to put up, but I haven't yet. I didn't take any pictures myself, I pretty much have given up and just let me non cosplaying friends do it.
Over all the convention was good, though it was much hotter this year than normal. They had the fountains turned off in the fountain court, so that raised the internal temperature of the place by a surprising amount. Made it a bit more tiresome to go in costume, so I was a bit more subdued.
I had a lot of people who remembered me, including the author of the book I appear in. I stop by periodically and chat with him. I also ran in to two of my stalkers, as usual. This time, though, we actually started talking. One of them and I have a surprising amount in common, beyond just anime and cosplay. We've exchanged contact information, and may even hang out some time. However, I can see that people are starting to get tired of seeing me over and over again. I was not as popular as I used to be when I started. So it is time to retire that costume. It's actually starting to come apart anyway.
For the first time ever, my house was the meeting point, since this was the first time I had a house I could offer. There was no way I was going to have the Otakon meetup at my parents house, they are not going to be a part of this. But it was cool, and it was nearly an hour and a half less of a drive to the convention center.
We did take over the pool on friday and saturday, with pirate themed beach balls and games of marco polo. Plus we ended up sharing booze with some of our neighbors, so that was fun. I made an unholy concoction of orange soda, whipped cream vodka, scotch, goldschlogger, and drambuie, which was surprisingly good.
One of my friends bought a pair of the Necomimi brainwave cat ears. They are absolutely awesome. We had so much fun with those things, and they really do work as advertised. They tend to eat batteries, but it was worth it to go wandering around baltimore and the aquarium while said friend was wearing them and seeing the reactions. I'm actually thinking of getting a pair and making my own custom covers for them.
Another friend entered into the art auction, and I've decided that I am going to do the same next year. So if you go, you might be able to win an original creation by me. That is also part of what has kept me from capping lately, since I was working on that. Inspiration came and I did not want to lose it.
I'll post pictures and quotes when I can.
You went to Otakon!?
ReplyDeleteYou seem like an awesome person..especially with this site up and all......I'm a fan. I was there. I did a crossplay and fooled tons of people apparently. Anyway if you want to message me or anything my e-mail is seguraj4@yahoo.com :)
As a matter of fact I did go to Otakon. I've been going for several years now, it's a big event for me. I'm actually already planning for next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you are a fan, and that you think I'm awesome. I don't think I'm all that great myself, but it's nice to hear that someone likes what I do.
I may have seen you while attending, though I can't promise if I did or not being that it is so large. If you are willing to share a picture of yourself at the con, I can say if I saw you or not.
Sango from InuYasha. Had the boomeranf about my size.
